Beach Towels Wholesale

A beach towel is bought for one of two reasons, and they lead to different specifications. A resort buys it as pool stock that has to survive sun, chlorine and a hotel laundry. A brand, retailer or promoter buys it as merchandise that has to look right on a shelf and photograph well. The same factory makes both, and they are not the same towel.

Pool and resort stock behaves like any other hotel linen: the constraints are absorbency, how it survives laundering, and how fast it dries. Merchandise behaves like apparel: the constraints are the printed design, the colour accuracy, the hand feel and the packaging. Buying the wrong one of those for the other job is the most common mistake in the category.

HotelsLinen manufactures beach towels wholesale to a written specification from 500 pieces per style and colour, in cotton terry, cotton velour and blends, with printing, jacquard weaving and custom colour. Buyers fix the size, the weight, the face, the design method and the packaging.

The buyers are hotels and resorts, water parks and pool clubs, cruise operators, swimwear and lifestyle brands, promotional and corporate gifting buyers, and distributors supplying any of those. Merchandise programmes are often seasonal, so the artwork deadline matters as much as the delivery date.

Size is the first decision and it is larger than people expect. Beach towels run bigger than bath towels because they are used lying down rather than standing up: a common resort size is around 90 x 170 cm, and jumbo sizes for retail go larger. Bigger towels need more material and more drying space, so a pool that specifies jumbo stock should check its drying capacity first.

Print method is the second, and it decides how the towel looks after ten washes. Printing applies colour to the surface of a woven towel; jacquard weaves the design into the cloth in coloured yarn. Print gives fine detail and photographic imagery; jacquard gives a design that does not fade, crack or wash out, because the colour is in the fibre rather than on it.

The face of the towel matters more in this category than in any other. Terry on both sides is the absorbent, everyday pool towel. Velour on one side gives a smooth, sheen finish that prints sharply and feels more premium, at some cost in absorbency. A velour face is the usual choice for merchandise; a terry face is the usual choice for pool stock.

Our factory is in the Nantong Home Textile Zone in Jiangsu, China, with weaving, dyeing, printing, cutting and packing in one supply chain. Orders start at 500 pieces per style and colour with a typical four-week lead time after the sample and artwork are approved.

Pool stock and merchandise are two different products

Both are beach towels and both are made here, but almost every specification decision differs between them. Deciding which one you are buying is the first step.

Pool and resort stock

The towel is a working item. It is used wet, left in sun, washed with chlorine residue and laundered at hotel temperature. The specification should favour absorbency, colour fastness and drying speed, and the print should be either absent or jacquard so that nothing can fade or crack off the surface.

Retail and merchandise

The towel is a product. It has to look right on a hanger, survive a customer handling it, and match the artwork the brand signed off. Detail, colour accuracy, the smooth face and the packaging all carry more weight than drying time, because the towel is not going into an industrial laundry.

Promotional and corporate

Promotional towels sit between the two. They are printed with a logo, bought in volume, and expected to be kept and used, so the print has to survive domestic washing and the towel has to feel worth keeping. This is where the choice between print and jacquard is usually decided by budget rather than by the brief.

Print, jacquard and velour

Three decisions that between them determine what the towel looks like in year one and in year three.

Print

Printing gives fine detail, gradients and photographic imagery, which is why retail and promotional towels use it. Colour sits on the surface of the woven cloth, so it is affected by abrasion and by washing: a printed towel will soften and dull over time, and a printed design on a heavy-use pool towel is the wrong combination.

Jacquard

Jacquard weaves the design into the cloth using coloured yarn, so the pattern is part of the fabric rather than applied to it. It cannot crack, peel or wash off, which makes it the right answer for hotel and resort branding and for any towel that will be laundered heavily. The trade-off is fine detail: jacquard handles bold shapes and repeats well and photographs poorly.

Velour against terry face

A velour face is a cut, sheared surface that feels smooth and takes print sharply; the reverse is usually terry for absorbency. A terry face is looped on both sides, more absorbent and slower to dry. Merchandise usually wants velour, pool stock usually wants terry — and where a brief asks for both a sharp print and heavy laundering, that is the point at which the two requirements have to be traded off explicitly.

Fringing and edges

A fringed edge is a merchandise detail. It is produced by leaving a warp border un-woven and knotting it, and it looks right on a retail towel. It is a poor choice for pool stock, where the fringe frays, tangles in the wash and is the first thing to fail. Resort towels should be cleanly hemmed.

What beach towels have to survive

Beach towels live a harder life than bathroom towels, and the difference is worth specifying for.

Sun and chlorine

Sunlight bleaches colour, and chlorine residue from pool use is aggressive to dyes. Colour fastness is therefore the property to specify in this category rather than an afterthought — especially for a resort that re-orders the same shade every season and expects it to match.

Sand, grit and abrasion

Sand works into the pile and abrades it, and towels are sat on, dragged and washed with grit still in them. A heavier, denser construction lasts visibly longer under that treatment than a light one, which is the main argument against specifying the cheapest weight for pool stock.

Re-ordering the same design

Seasonal programmes re-order the same artwork and the same shade year after year, and that only works if both are held on file. Printed colour is matched to an approved sample, and jacquard colour to a yarn reference. Losing that reference is what turns a third-season re-order into a redesign.

FAQ

Common Questions

What is the MOQ for beach towels wholesale?

Our standard minimum is 500 pieces per style and colour. Beach towel programmes often carry several designs or colours in one order, which can be combined once the artwork and specification are agreed.

Should I choose print or jacquard?

It depends on how the towel will be used. Print gives fine detail and photographic imagery and is the usual choice for retail and promotional towels. Jacquard weaves the design in coloured yarn so it cannot crack or wash off, which is the right answer for hotel and resort stock that goes through industrial laundering.

What size are beach towels?

Resort pool towels are commonly around 90 x 170 cm, retail towels 80 x 160 cm or 90 x 170 cm, and jumbo sizes 100 x 180 cm and above. Kids towels run around 60 x 120 cm. Larger towels need more material and more drying space, so check the drying setup before specifying jumbo stock.

What GSM should a beach towel be?

Pool and resort stock commonly sits around 400 to 550 GSM and retail towels a little lighter at 350 to 500 GSM, because a velour face prints more sharply on a lighter construction. A heavier towel survives sand and abrasion better and takes longer to dry.

Terry or velour face?

A velour face is sheared and smooth, prints sharply and feels more premium, which suits merchandise. A terry face is looped on both sides and more absorbent, which suits pool stock. Where a brief asks for both a sharp print and heavy laundering, something has to be traded off and it is worth deciding which explicitly.

Will the printed design fade?

Any print softens over time because the colour sits on the surface of the cloth rather than inside it. A printed towel used as pool stock and laundered hot will dull sooner than one used domestically. Where fade resistance matters, jacquard is the specification that solves it.

Can beach towels carry our logo?

Yes, by print, by jacquard or by embroidery. Which one depends on the number of colours, the level of detail, the quantity and how hard the towel will be washed. Placement and colour are confirmed on the sample before bulk production.

Can you match a design we already sell?

Usually yes, where the artwork and an approved physical sample exist. Send both, because a digital file alone does not carry the colour the previous batch was matched to. For jacquard, we need the yarn colour reference rather than a screen colour.

How are beach towels packed?

Packing follows the channel: rolled and banded or polybagged for retail, folded and cartoned for pool stock, with pieces per carton, dimensions, weight and markings specified for your receiving area.

What is the lead time?

About four weeks after the sample and the artwork are approved. Printing, dyeing and any jacquard setup are the steps most likely to move the date, and artwork approval is usually the critical path on a seasonal programme.
