Hospital Bed Linen
Hospital bed linen made to your laundry specification — flat and fitted sheets, draw sheets, pillowcases and mattress protectors in the fibre, weight and dimensions your wash house can actually sustain.
Hospital bed linen is bought against a laundry contract, not against a bedroom. The question is never whether the fabric feels good in the hand — it is whether the set is still dimensionally correct and structurally sound after the number of industrial wash cycles your facility runs in a year.
We make hospital bed linen to order. You specify the fibre blend as a percentage, the weight in GSM, the finished dimensions with the shrinkage allowance stated separately, and the construction detail at every stress point. We make to that specification and quote on it.
A hospital bed linen set is usually built from four or five items rather than one. The flat sheet takes the abrasion, the fitted sheet takes the load at the corners, the draw sheet takes the shear load when a patient is repositioned, and the pillowcase is changed more often than anything else in the ward. Each item has a different failure mode, and each one therefore needs its own line in the specification.
This is where most hospital bed linen procurement goes wrong before a single piece is cut. A single fibre and a single weight are applied across the whole set, which over-specifies the cheap items and under-specifies the ones that actually fail. The draw sheet is the clearest example: it is the highest-stress item in the set and it is almost always the lowest-cost line in the quote.
We work with hospital procurement teams, care home groups, hospice operators and institutional laundries. Orders are made to order with a 500-piece minimum per style and colour, and a typical lead time of about four weeks from order confirmation.
Where you already have a working specification, send it and we will quote against it line by line, including the items you may not currently be buying separately. Where you are building a specification for the first time, send your laundry conditions — maximum wash temperature, bleach chemistry and expected cycles between replacement — and we will tell you which fibre routes those conditions allow before we talk about price.
The fibre decision is usually made for you by the wash house. Chlorine bleach chemistry eliminates most dyed shades and pushes facilities toward white. High wash temperatures and aggressive mechanical action favour poly-cotton blends, which hold their dimensions and resist abrasion better than 100% cotton at the same weight. Where comfort against skin is the priority and the wash regime is gentler, 100% cotton remains the better answer, with a larger shrinkage allowance built into the dimensions.
Colour is worth deciding deliberately rather than by default. Where colour is used to distinguish wards, departments or a patient group, specify a shade reference and a tolerance — two deliveries of the same "blue" from the same supplier can be visibly different, and mismatched bedding in one ward is a visible failure even when every individual item is within its own specification.
Labelling and traceability also need a decision before production rather than after. A printed care label with a batch reference is usually enough where you need batch-level traceability. Where you intend to track individual items through their service life, specify the tag type and its position, and make sure the position avoids the highest-abrasion zone — a traceability programme that loses its tags at cycle 40 delivers no data.
Send us the item list, the laundry conditions and the bed dimensions, including the maximum mattress depth rather than the resting depth. We quote within 24 hours, and where a specification has a problem in it we will say so rather than quote around it.
What You Get
Why Source Hospital Bed Linen From HotelsLinen
Made to your laundry specification
Fibre stated as percentages, weight in GSM, finished dimensions with the shrinkage allowance separate, and construction specified at every stress point — hems, seams and bar-tacks included.
Draw sheets treated as load-bearing
The item under the patient takes shear and tensile load that nothing else in the set sees. We specify tensile strength, pulling-edge reinforcement and edge construction rather than quoting it as a small sheet.
Fitted sheets built around the gusset
Gusset depth is quoted against your maximum mattress depth, not the resting depth, with the corner construction and the elastic coverage specified so that a profiling bed does not pull the sheet off overnight.
Specified for your bleach chemistry
Chlorine and oxygen bleach systems allow completely different fibre and dye choices. Tell us the chemistry and the maximum temperature and the fabric selection follows from it.
White and colour, with a stated tolerance
White remains the practical standard wherever chlorine bleach is used. Where colour is used for ward identification, we work to a shade reference and a stated tolerance so that deliveries match each other.
Labelling to your traceability level
Printed care labels for batch-level traceability, or barcode, QR or RFID tags positioned away from the highest-abrasion zone for item-level tracking.
Packing built for your store room
Pieces per pack, packs per carton and carton dimensions agreed up front, with pre-shipment photographs of the finished items and the packed cartons before dispatch.
MOQ 500, about four weeks
A 500-piece minimum per style and colour, with a typical lead time of about four weeks from order confirmation. Volume across a single run also produces more consistent shade than several smaller runs.
Custom Manufacturing
Send your spec or sample and we make it to order with consistent quality at scale.
Custom Branding
Embroidered, woven-label and printed logos, plus private label packaging.
Factory-Direct MOQ
Start from 500 pieces per style and color, with a typical 4-week lead time.
FAQ
Common Questions
What is the difference between hospital bed linen and ordinary bed linen?
The specification drivers are different. Ordinary bed linen is specified around comfort and appearance with a domestic wash regime. Hospital bed linen is specified around wash cycles, bleach chemistry and dimensional stability through industrial laundering, with comfort secondary. Two sets can look identical and have completely different service lives.
What items should a hospital bed linen order include?
Most facilities order four or five: flat sheet, fitted sheet, draw sheet or slide sheet, pillowcase, and mattress protector. Pillows and underpads are often bought separately. Each item has a different failure mode and should be quoted on its own line rather than as a single blended price.
How should we state the size of hospital bed linen?
State the finished dimension and state the shrinkage allowance as a separate number. A supplier cannot be held to a finished size that was never given, and quotes that treat the allowance differently cannot be compared against each other.
Is poly-cotton or 100% cotton better for hospital use?
At the same weight, poly-cotton blends hold their dimensions better through repeated hot washing and resist mechanical abrasion better, which normally means a longer replacement cycle. 100% cotton is more comfortable against skin when new and handles higher temperatures, but shrinks more and needs a larger allowance. Your wash house usually decides this for you.
What wash cycle count should we specify?
Decide your own target and state it in the request with the conditions attached — temperature, chemistry and load size. A cycle count without conditions is not comparable between suppliers, and the conditions matter more than the number.
Can you match a specification we already have from another supplier?
Send the existing specification and a physical sample if you have one. We will quote against it line by line and tell you where the specification is ambiguous or where two items are being asked to do the same job.
Do you supply draw sheets and slide sheets?
Yes, and we quote them separately because they are replaced more often than anything else in the set. Under-specifying the draw sheet is one of the most expensive recurring mistakes in institutional bedding procurement.
What are the minimum order and lead time?
A 500-piece minimum per style and colour, with a typical lead time of about four weeks from order confirmation. Where an order covers several colours, the minimum applies per colour, which is worth resolving before the request goes out.
Can you add our own labels and traceability tags?
Yes. Woven or printed care labels, printed barcodes, QR codes and RFID tags are all available. If you intend to track individual items, specify the tag position as well as the tag type, and keep it away from the highest-abrasion area.
How do we avoid a shade mismatch across deliveries?
Specify the shade by a reference the supplier can match and state a tolerance. A single larger production run also produces more consistent shade than several smaller runs spread across a period.
